What is CMAT?
CMAT or the Common Management Admission Test is an aptitude test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBA/PGDM courses in over 1,300+ B-Schools across India.
- CMAT Exam is a one of the good choice among MBA aspirants as CMAT score is accepted by all AICTE approved colleges.
- About 1300+ B-schools (government and private) accept CMAT score for MBA admission
- CMAT exam is usually of moderate difficulty level, thus easier than other MBA exams such as CAT, XAT, GMAT
- CMAT has four sections – Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension & Verbal Ability and General Awareness. A fifth section was introduced recently in CMAT exam – Innovation & Entrepreneurship. This section is optional for those who aspire to be entrepreneurs in future.
CMAT Exam Pattern
CMAT EXAM is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for MBA Aspirants. Exam will be conducted through online mode consist 125 questions carried 4 marks on every correct questions with negative marking (as applicable) for every incorrect answer. Total time duration for exam is 180 minutes and 30 minutes is also provided extra for additional section.

- Once CMAT scorecard is declared, Candidates will call for Group Discussion, Personal Interview and Written Ability Test from Different institute based on their marks.
- Cut off list (prepared based on candidates score in exam) will varies from one institutes to another institutes and their selection process will also varies.

What is CAT Exam?
Common Admission Test or CAT exam is a common aptitude test which is a path to get chance of study with 20 IIMs and over 1,300 B-schools in India.
The CAT question paper comprises Multiple choice questions (MCQs) & NON-MCQs from three section
(1) Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC),
(2) Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
(3) Quantitative Ability (QA).
Over two lakh candidates appear in CAT exam every year.

CAT Marking Scheme
It is important to know the CAT marking scheme before attempting the exam so that you can select which questions to answer and which ones to skip.
- Total marks of CAT 2021 paper was 228.
- Each question will carry three marks.
- There will be negative marking of minus for every wrong answer
- There will be no deduction of marks in case a candidate chooses to not attempt a given question
- Some questions in each section may not be of multiple choice type, thus the answers will have to be typed on the screen
(2) Group Discussion And WAT Interview
Out of the 20 IIMs almost all of them, have replaced GD round by WAT round as their final selection process for admission to their programmes. All IIM’s feel that WAT a better testing process to understand a candidate than Group Discussion. It happens frequently as many candidates could not express their opinion and views during Group discussion round while who could speak louder made their presence.
What is WAT?
WAT is a paper-pen based writing test of 15 to 30 minutes duration conducted by IIMs and other top B-schools to test your writing skills after you are shortlisted for final admission round. This test is conducted just before your personal Interview session.
(3) Interview Process
The Personal Interview round is the one of the most important round of IIMs admission. It carries about 30-40% weightage in the selection process.
There will be 2-4 interviewers in a panel who will take face to face interview and will access to candidates on their confidence, communication skills, managerial skills and leadership qualities, etc.

Once a Candidate get shortlisted for GD/WAT and Interview round has to submit their final and attested document as mentioned below

(4) Final Selection Round

For final selection into IIMs, there are certain Parameter for marks distribution and it varies from one IIM to IIM at every year.

PART B: CAP Round (Common Admission Process)
Where, Most of the IIMs conducts their own GD/WAT and PI Round for admission into their college but There few and new IIMs conducts common counselling known as Common Admission Process.
A shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for the common written ability test and personal interview rounds. Each of these IIMs will publish a candidate’s performance based on a separate merit list.
